Watermark Place comprises the roof terraces for One Angel Lane, a high quality office development, and refurbishment of a section of river walk. The site is situated on the north of the River Thames between Cannon Street Bridge and London Bridge. The Practice was appointed to design the public realm for two large roof terraces and a green roof, working alongside Fletcher Priest Architects. The River Walk area, completed in 2010, and incorporates a new public space between adjacent buildings, allowing pedestrians to stop, rest and enjoy the views across the river. One Angel Lane has two roof gardens of 2,500m2 and 500m2. These have been designed to maximise clear views out across the River Thames. The largest of these gardens contains two linear water rills with pools and cascades forming the main feature. Iroko timber is used to form the planters and seating elements with evergreen hedging and herbaceous perennial planting, providing colour throughout the year. An area of York Stone paving provides space for corporate entertaining and events, whilst a lawn is provided for use in the summer months. Part of the terrace includes space for office workers to grow their own plants and food, with beehives installed on some of the non-accessible roof areas.
