TOWNSHEND LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS
LOTS ROAD POWER STATION
Lots Road is the redevelopment of the former Lots Road Power Station site which is situated on the River Thames in Chelsea and bisected by Chelsea Creek. The scheme aims to reconnect the two adjoining neighbourhoods by transforming the power station into mixed use residential and retail accommodation which will include approximately 800 apartments, with commercial space and retail units at ground floor.
Townshend Landscape Architects were appointed to develop a clear strategy for the design of the public spaces proposed in the masterplan to ensure a successful mix between the public and semi-public and private spaces. The masterplan aims to improve connections with the surrounding area in particular with the riverside walk and to Chelsea Harbour development. These connections will be supported by a series of destinations accessible by the public including an arcade space, public square, riverside gardens, creekside gardens and childrens play space. Biodiversity across the site will be enhanced with the introduction of native planting, many of which will be located on tidal terraces which aims to re-introduce some of the Thames species lost through urbanisation.
