TOWNSHEND LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS
CARTIER CIRCLE
Townshend Landscape Architects were appointed as lead consultants to design the eastern gateway to Canary Wharf, Cartier Circle. The design evolved around the need to announce arrival at Canary Wharf from the east, while acknowledging it's axial relationship with One Canada Square and the key movement spine that runs through the development.
The scheme involved remodelling the traffic layout to create wider pavements, the introduction of evergreen trees to frame the space, and the design of 17 gilded bronze columns at the heart of the space.
Townshend's worked closely with CWC and led a multidisciplinary team which included Arup, WSP, SDG and Speirs and Major.
The project was completed in Spring 2010.
