BANKSIDE

Bankside 1,2,3 is the redevelopment of the former St Christopher’s House site situated on Southwark Street behind the Tate Modern. The site is comprised of three large office buildings which accommodate retail space on the ground floors. The principle behind the design for the landscape was to create a new network of high quality spaces, places and links which when seen together create a sense of place and improve connections to the river. The key landscape spaces are a new pedestrianised street linking the Tate Modern to Southwark Street, a forecourt space fronting Southwark Street and general street scene improvements to Southwark Street as well as the streets surrounding the site. The spaces have all been constructed using high quality stone paving, sculptural stone seating, semi mature tree planting, shrub planting, lighting and public art.
