TOWNSHEND LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS

THE COLOSSEUM

Townshend Landscape Architects were appointed to develop a concept design masterplan for The Colosseum Retail Park in Bucharest. This prestigious retail and leisure development will provide over 56,000m2 of mixed use retail, leisure and restaurant areas. The scheme will also include a new tram and bus interchange and will provide over 9,000 car parking spaces for visitors. The landscape design focused on the surrounding parkland which will create a gateway to the Colosseum and provide a buffer between the car park and road. Upon arrival visitors will travel through the parkland to the centre. Identifiable character areas have been designed by creating a series of tree and plant palettes to allow visitors to orientate themselves easily. Focal areas of interest have been created throughout the design with water features, lighting and seasonal planting. Construction of the retail park will start on site in the fourth quarter of 2008 with an anticipated opening date in the fourth quarter of 2009.
