EDDINGTON OPENS

The first phase for a new district in Cambridge, developed by the University of Cambridge, has opened to the public, including affordable homes for key workers at the University, post graduate accommodation, a new primary school, health and retail facilities.

Approximately 4,000 people visited 'Open Eddington' in the first weekend that saw the new district of Eddington accessible to the public.

The university-owned green field site located between Madingley Road, Huntingdon Road and the M11 was masterplanned by Aecom as part of a £1 billion urban district and extension to the city is centred on a mixed academic and urban community. TLA won a competition in 2012 to develop and design the public realm for the Local Centre, Market Square (Lot B). The aim was to create an 'urban core' that helped pull together the vibrant surrounding building uses to create the setting for public life to play out. The new square was designed to create a central focus to the area where events, markets and performances could be held as well as provide a variety of different seating areas.
